Job Summary;
The Data Scientist is responsible for analyzing large amounts of raw information to find
patterns that will help build data products to extract valuable business and actionable
insights.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Solves business problems through undirected research and framing open-ended
industry questions
2. Extracts huge volumes of structured and unstructured data; queries structured data
from relational databases using programming languages such as SQL; gathers
unstructured data through web scraping, APIs, and surveys
3. Employs sophisticated analytical methods, machine learning, and statistical methods
to prepare data for use in predictive and prescriptive modeling
4. Thoroughly cleans data to discard irrelevant information and prepare the data for
preprocessing and modeling
5. Performs exploratory data analysis to determine how to handle missing data and to
look for trends and/or opportunities
6. Discovers new algorithms to solve problems and builds programs to automate
repetitive work
7. Communicates predictions and findings to management and IT departments through
effective data visualizations and reports
8. Recommends cost-effective changes to procedures and strategies
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Business or related field
2. Continued Education in Data Science preferred
3. 5 years experience in data analytics
4. Strong problem solving skills with an emphasis on product development
5. Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SQL, etc.) to manipulate
data and draw insights from large data sets
6. Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree
learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks
