Job Description
The opportunity
The Credit Analyst is responsible for assessing, reviewing and quantifying the credit risk of investment securities under the general account investments department of Manulife. The incumbent will need to perform credit analysis to understand the inherent risks and rate the security appropriately. This internal analysis requires sifting through various sources of information that includes corporate reports, SEC filings, investor presentations, external credit rating agencies, websites, institutional research and industry publications. The individual will be accountable in completing the credit reviews on a timely basis and will be closely interacting with the investment teams in the U.S. and Canada.
The role is in the mid-shift schedule (2PM to 11PM MNL time).The role reports to Finance - GA Credit Analysis Manager and to the credit investment teams in the U.S. and Canada.
Responsibilities
Perform fundamental credit analysis on issuersbased on company, industry, and economic information from a variety of sources including corporate reports, SEC filings, investor presentations, credit rating agencies,websites,institutional research, and industry publications
Conduct an independent analysis and write a comprehensive insightful credit review reporton a timely manner
< span>Develop and prepare spreadsheets and models to support credit analysis of existing issuer names
Monitor issuer names compliance with loan covenants through periodic reviews of their financial performance
Actively monitormarketevents, corporate actions and rating actions. This includes the use of S&P, Moody's, Fitch, Bloombergand other market news sources to maintain up-to-date information on issuer names
Keep up to date with Manulife's investment protocols
Discuss credit analysis reports with the Investment Team in North America daily
Perform any other job-related instructions, as requested, with reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics or related discipline
5+ years working experience in a financial institution or related companies
3-5 years of credit analysis experience from an investment/asset manager/pension investment organization, banking or risk rating agency is an advantage
Strong analytical skills with both qualitative and quantitative perspectives
Strong oral/written communication and interpersonal skills
Advance proficiency using Word for written analysis and Excel for spreadsheet analysis
Ability to investigate/research/synthesize data and make appropriate conclusions as to what is causing the observed result(s)
Strong attention to detail and ability to notice discrepancies in data
Impeccable understanding of financial statements, ratios, and concepts
Enrollment in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program an advantage
Ability to effectively manage competing deadlines in a high-pressure work environment, with minimal or no supervision
Ability to quickly integrate with the job while ensuring a high-quality output
Knowledge on external credit rating systems such as S&P, Moody's and Fitch as well as Bloomberg an advantage
Participates in educational opportunities reads professional publications maintains networks and participates in professional organization to always be up to date on job knowledge
