Project Title: Cost-effective Technology for Monitoring and Quantifying Benthic Area Covered by Marine Litter in Shallow Coastal Areas
This project will design and build a cost-effective technology powered by Artificial intelligence and advanced image analysis for the detection and identification of underwater marine litter in shallow coastal areas. The technology will be used to collect marine litter data to model future scenario of marine litter pollution. The computer programmer will program and help design an image analysis and AI board.
Selection Process

2) Qualified applicants/Candidates will be invited for an interview with the following components:
· Presentation of a 10-minute synthesis of the paper, "An efficient coral survey method based on a large-scale 3-D structure model obtained by Speedy Sea Scanner and U-Net segmentation (available at https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-69400-5)
· Coding interview (20 minutes) about creating functions, input/output, implementation of a simple data structure, and data manipulation. The candidate may use C++/Python.
· Personal interview (20 minutes)
3) Final interview with Project Team

Qualifications
Þ Graduate of BS Computer Science or BS Information Technology or BS Computer Engineering or BS Electrical Engineering;
Þ Strong programming experience in C++ and Python;
Þ Preferably with some knowledge of image preprocessing techniques and artificial intelligence (e.g., deep learning);
Þ Preferably with technical skills in both software and hardware;
Þ With good oral and writing skills;
Þ Must be a critical thinker and problem solver;
Þ Must be trainable and a team player; and
Þ Based in the Davao Region and can safely report to work by March 8, 2021 at UP Mindanao.
