Job Summary
 
We are looking for an experienced Civil/Chemical Engineer to lead laboratory operations and oversee technical processes related to the management and optimization of biogas plant infrastructure. The Laboratory Manager will ensure accurate testing, regulatory compliance, and the development of innovative solutions to enhance plant performance.
 
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations Management:
Oversee/conduct laboratory processes, including sample collection, testing, and data analysis for biogas production.
Manage and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for testing and safety protocols.
Infrastructure Oversight:
Inspect and maintain biogas plant infrastructure, including digesters, gas storage systems, and pipelines.
Support infrastructure modifications and expansions to optimize plant efficiency.
Testing & Analysis:
Conduct and supervise testing or digester performance and gas  composition (e.g., methane content, hydrogen sulfide levels).
Perform chemical and biological analyses to monitor biogas plant performance, including methane content, pH, COD, BOD, and feedstock composition.
Provide technical reports on laboratory findings and recommend process improvements.
Process Optimization:
Collaborate with engineering and operational teams to enhance anaerobic digestion efficiency and biogas yield.
Identify bottlenecks in feedstock management, digestion processes, or gas utilization systems and implement solutions.
Monitor feedstock quality and digestion efficiency to identify areas for improvement.
Support the development of strategies for nutrient recovery, waste minimization, and energy efficiency.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure plant operations meet local, national, and international environmental and safety standards.
Prepare documentation and reports for regulatory compliance and audits.
Research & Development:
Lead research projects to improve biogas production, feedstock utilization, and waste treatment technologies.
Stay updated on advancements in biogas technology and laboratory techniques.
Team Leadership:
Supervise and train laboratory staff on testing protocols, safety measures, and technical methodologies.
Foster a collaborative team environment, encouraging innovation and knowledge sharing.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):
Conduct risk assessments and enforce safety practices in laboratory and plant operations.
Ensure compliance with HSE policies and promote a culture of safety.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Civil/Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
Additional qualifications in biogas technology, renewable energy, wastewater treatment or environmental science are an asset.
Experience:
5-15+ years of experience in biogas plant operations, laboratory management, or related infrastructure projects.
Hands-on expertise in managing anaerobic digestion systems, gas analysis, or feedstock evaluation a plus
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of biogas production processes and laboratory testing techniques.
Proficiency in managing plant infrastructure, including pipeline systems, gas storage, and digesters.
Familiarity with environmental regulations and renewable energy standards.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification in laboratory management or biogas technology.
Experience with advanced testing techniques
Familiarity with sustainable practices and circular economy principles.
