Responsibilities and Tasks:
Responsible for efficient operation and upkeep of all machinery on board.
In-charge of the planned maintenance system onboard. Coordinate and follow up on all planned and unplanned maintenance and repairs with Second Engineer for engine machinery and with Chief Officer for Deck Machineries.
Coordinate and follow up Engine Department's work schedules, including watch instructions.
Ensuring that effective communications exist between the engine room and bridge.
Ensuring that a Risk Assessment and TBT are conducted prior to performing any engineering tasks.
In-charge of programming maintenance of all machinery in accordance with theResponsibilities and Tasks: procedures set out by the makers and company.
Ensuring Engine room is effectively manned at all times.
Ensuring engineers are familiar with the operation of machinery under emergency conditions such as engine room fire, Flooding and Blackouts. He should familiarize himself with the emergency release of the Fixed CO2 system.
Ensuring that the Engine Log Book and Oil Record Book for Machinery Spaces are correctly maintained by all engineers.
Preparing written standing orders for watchkeeping engineering personnel.
Ensuring that the ship's Drawings and Plans and Instruction Manuals for machinery are correct, up to date and correctly filed.
Calculating expendables for the intended voyage, including fuel, water, lubricants, chemicals, gases, spare parts, tools and supplies to ensure that requirements are met and that sufficient reserves, depending upon trade considerations, are available.
Machinery spare parts requisitioning and the filing of the associated paperwork.
In-charge of all bunker operations. Ensure samples are taken as per MARPOL requirements and proper record keeping is maintained.
Preparing dry-docking lists for all engine and machinery-related items.
In charge of the regular testing of safety craft engines, Fire alarms, Emergency fire pump, Emergency generator, Engine Alarm Systems and trips, Emergency steering, Fire Dampers and Flaps (coordinate with Chief Officer), Emergency Stops, Quick Closing Valves and all other emergency provisions.
Ensuring that all work performed conforms to the safety requirements of the SMS.
Prepare Hand Over Report in SMS Form and to have ready Vessel Engine Inventory during Hand Over(both documents to be recorded on Vessel Filling System as per the SMS Procedures)
Repair and service by shore workshop for all equipment, except navigation and communication systems.
Actively take part in all safety drills and meetings and assist the Chief Officer in reviewing drills upon completion.
In addition vessel, Chief Engineer will assist and advise Master towards machinery-related operational parameters, limits and precautions to be observed.
Qualifications and competence:
At least 2 years experience in Landing Craft/ RO-RO Passenger/ Bulk Carrier as Chief Engineer.
US Visa C1/D is preferred however not required at the time of application, however must be in place before onboarding

STCW COC certificate valid
English language proficiency
English Marlings test
