The role and responsibilities:
Summary: The DME Biller performs billing and collection functions utilizing knowledge of how insurance carriers' work. In this role, you must be proficient using durable medical equipment coding and has a vast knowledge with medical equipment and supplies such as feeding tubes, feeding pumps, trachea, etc.
Receives and generates request from referral sources/doctors and patients to provide medical equipment and/or supplies to patients
Obtains and reviews the documentation within the medical record to determine payer qualifications are met for equipment and referrals
Creates and sends invoices to facilities and insurance companies and will be processing orders
Ensure that each and every accessory and piece of the equipment is coded for
Send the claim with any necessary authorization paperwork to ensure that the insurance company will pay for the claim
Verify eligibility
Follow up and assist with obtaining Physician's orders to complete billing
Answer insurance inquiries, corresponding with insurance companies on payment discrepancies
Identify secondary or tertiary insurances for billing
Follow up unpaid and/or delinquent claims
Management of assigned accounts and tracking of equipment
HIPAA compliance
Requirements:
At least 2 years DME billing experience with Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, and other private insurances preferably from a US company
With knowledge of CMNs (Certificate of medical necessity, pre-billing and insurance verification
Medical practitioner proficient with medical jargons/terminology
Ability to perform medical billing functions via Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
Must be familiar with insurance benefits and eligibility
Excellent customer service skills
Comfortable speaking with doctors, patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies
Adept in preparing and processing claims
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
