About the Role
As a Backend Engineer, you will contribute to the whole software development lifecycle - from initial architecting, through the development of features and automated tests, to the configuration of deployment pipelines and hosting environments. You will help others within the team and take an active part in ensuring the project's success. You will primarily work with Node but will be excited to expand your expertise in other backend technologies as required - we have a few smaller projects developed with technologies such as Golang, AWS Lambda, and Cloudflare Workers, as well as many larger projects developed using PHP and Laravel - it's important to pick the right tool for the job.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Work across the web services in aiding the development and when needed troubleshooting.
A large emphasis was put on collaboration within the team and the ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external members.
Give your input for digital strategies of the project whilst working with the teams and providing reports.
Manage all backend operations and processes of the services to ensure the efficient and effective running of the platforms.
Work on the architecture end to end and identify/mitigate any technical issues and improvements to meet business goals for the clients.
Position Prerequisites
Experience working with Node.js and the most common packages in the ecosystem such as Express.
Strong TypeScript experience and familiarity with up-to-date Node APIs.
Experience building performant, secure and scalable RESTful APIs.
Experience working with databases and ORMs (SQL and/or NoSQL - at least one of MySQL or Mongo.
Experience with a backend MVC framework, ideally in Node (e.g., Adonis, Sails).
Strong familiarity with object-oriented design patterns.
Knowledge and experience in the unit and integration testing and system design.
Ability to estimate the technical effort required to design and implement new functionality.
Ability to debug and fix complex issues.
Experience using git and continuous integration/continuous deployment.
Ability to demonstrate previous apps or projects you have worked on.
Experience working with and mentoring more junior developers.
Nice to Have
Experience with serverless architectures.
Experience documenting RESTful APIs with Swagger/OpenAPI standards.
Experience in other interpreted languages (PHP, Python).
Experience in compiled languages (C#, Go).
Experience working with AWS, Terraform, Docker and JIRA.
