Sourcing and Selection of new and alternative components for New Product Development Projects and Cost Reduction Purposes.
Responsibilities
1. Sorcing and Selection of parts
- Sourcing of new and alternative Active, Passive, Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Components from preferred suppliers/ manufacturers.
- Provide a parametric table comparison of parts for the design engineers' easier review.
- Answer all technical queries from the design engineers regarding the proposed part.
- Answer all procurement details from the procurement team.
- Provide all the necessary documents needed to have the part approved by the design engineers (eg. datasheet, Material Declaration, RoHS CoC and REACH CoC).
2. Costing
- Bill of Materials (BOM) Costing: Obtaining best price and lead time by referring to Emerson's Supplier Contract Pricing or requesting direct quotation to the manufacturers / suppliers.
- Actual Product Board Costing: Estimating the BOM cost by properly identifying all the parts included in the BOM and getting the unit price of each part either from Emerson Contract Pricing or direct quotation.
3. Teardown Analysis
- Able to identify, name and count all the parts included in the Product Board of a Competitor or Emerson existing product.
- Able to identify and compare the technologies that were used in the products.
- Able to estimate the BOM cost and compare which product has a better BOM cost.
4. Potential Savings
- Finding alternative components from preferred suppliers which costs less but has equal or better electrical parameters and quality.
5. Act as reviewer of ECT - Data Base
- Provide and review all the necessary parameters needed in order for the part to be uploaded in ECT Data Base.
6. Qualification
- Performing either actual or based on Vendor Specifications/Component Data.
7. Expansion of Role(s)
Demonstrate technical expertise of commodity on:
- Reliability and Quality
- Manufacturing Processes
- Failure Analysis
- Supplier Quality Audit using ESAC
Engineer 1:
- Technical expertise on one (1) commodity
- Able to handle at least two (2) commodities on Sourcing and Selection
Engineer 2:
- Technical expertise on two (2) commodities
- Able to handle at least three (3) commodities on Sourcing and Selection
- Lead supplier meetings/trainings
- Lead/Spearhead initiatives/projects
Additional Functions
- Coordinating of product road maps of suppliers with the design teams.
- Coordinating with Emerson Corporate Commodity Managers
- Working with other staff and other groups
- Other functions that may arise Requirements
- Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering or Electrical Engineering. (Preferred)
- Mechanical Engineering can also be considered (Preferred)
- At least one (1) year experience in Component Engineering is preferred but not required.
- Experience in other fields such as Design, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Procurement is preferred but not required.
- Proficient in Supplier and Component Qualifications
- Background in Component Failure Analysis and supplier audit is an advantage.
- A fresh graduate can also be considered.
