Application Portfolio Management: As the Chapter Lead, you would be responsible for managing the application portfolio within the Cloud Engineering department. This includes understanding the various applications used within the organization, their interdependencies, and their alignment with business objectives.
You will be responsible for gathering metrics and information such as Application age, how often it's used, its maintenance costs and its interrelationships with other applications/workloads, so that you can geenrate informative data to decide whether a particular application or service (a group of applications) should be kept, updated, retired or replaced based on current technology modernizations being done in Cloud Engineering.
You will provide an assessment of cloud run costs and migration affordability of legacy applications targeted for Cloud Migration.
Strategic Planning: You would be involved in developing strategies and roadmaps for the application portfolio. This might involve modernization efforts, cloud migration plans, and ensuring that applications are optimized for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
Collaboration with Stakeholders: Collaboration is essential in this role. You'll need to work closely with various stakeholders, including business leaders, IT managers, developers, and other relevant teams, to understand their needs and align the application portfolio with overall business objectives.
Cost Optimization: Drive cost optimization initiatives related to application usage in the cloud. Identify opportunities to reduce operational expenses, improve resource utilization, and optimize licensing.
Cloud Technology Expertise: Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in cloud technologies and assess how they can be leveraged to enhance the application portfolio's efficiency and functionality.
Other Technical Qualifications:
Familiarity and basic expertise in Terraform, Ansible, or Deployment Manager, ensuring consistency and reproducibility.
Familiarity and basic expertise in containerized applications using Kubernetes Engine, including deployment, scaling, and monitoring.
Professional IT experience in a large-scale, distributed environment with hands-on experience in multiple technologies and multiple roles - from Design, Build, Transition, and Operations.
Professional IT experience in public cloud platforms (AWS and GCP), private cloud platforms (RH Openshift), containerization, and serverless platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).
Professional IT experience in Terraform and Red Hat Ansible playbook development.
Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of business analysts, developers, data scientists, and subject-matter experts.
Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, with an ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Solid experience in designing, implementing, and managing cloud-based solutions
Proficiency in infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Deployment Manager.
Hands-on experience with container technologies, particularly Docker and Kubernetes.
Knowledge of scripting or programming languages, such as Terraform (HCL), Python, Bash, or Go, for automation and infrastructure management.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools for continuous integration and deployment.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure issues.
Good understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, and firewall configuration.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
Interdisciplinary Knowledge: Familiarity with related disciplines such as DevOps, cybersecurity, data management, and compliance can be beneficial for a holistic approach to cloud-based application management.
Strategic Thinking: Capability to develop long-term strategies for application portfolio management and cloud adoption, considering organizational goals, industry trends, and emerging technologies.
Application Architecture: Familiarity with various application architectures (such as three-tiered blueprints), including microservices, serverless, and containerization. Understand how these architectures impact performance, scalability, and maintenance. Collaborating with development teams to architect scalable and resilient cloud-based applications, ensuring adherence to best practices and performance optimization.
Cloud Technology Expertise: In-depth knowledge of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their services. Understand cloud architecture, deployment models, and best practices for application migration and management in the cloud.
