The Opportunity
Manulife Business Processing Services (MBPS) is a global resourcing organization for Manulife Financial, a leading multinational financial services company headquartered in Canada, operating as John Hancock in the United States and as Manulife in the rest of the world.
The MBPS Actuarial Services Division provides actuarial services to Manulife business areas across Asia and North America, including asset modelling, liability modelling, experience studies and valuation work. We encourage career development through our rotation program to explore various roles to gain a broader knowledge and experience base. Additionally, we offer support for pursuing actuarial designations with the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and Actuarial Society of the Philippines
The Actuarial Internship Program is a development program to run for at least 4 weeks, which offers high potential university students the opportunity to gain knowledge on practical applications of the different actuarial concepts and to be exposed to the different roles and responsibilities of an actuarial staff in MBPS. The program aims to develop the actuarial skills of university students who aspire to become the actuaries of tomorrow and to give them opportunity to prepare for and be exposed in the actuarial field in a corporate environment. The actuarial intern should be able to commit to self-development, accountability, and responsibility.

We are looking for someone with:
At least 2nd year student pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Statistics
Basic knowledge in various actuarial concepts and their application to life insurance - probability, interest theory, life contingencies
Ability to communicate output clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
Familiarity with database software and Microsoft Excel
Driven to attain designation in any recognized actuarial organization (e.g., SoA, ASP)
On the job you will:
Develop process documentation and controls
Validate actuarial cashflows and assumptions
Maintain and run valuation models for monthly/quarterly reserve calculation and financial reporting
Develop and test actuarial models in GGY Axis or other software
Complete mortality, lapse and other experience studies for various Manulife businesses
Analyze reserves, capital and risk calculations and provide commentary on results to management
