Given the rapid growth in demand for early career professionals, including experienced professionals transitioning into the IT industry, we need a trainer who can help educate and support the new members in launching their IT consulting careers. The ideal candidate is a development practitioner who can coach, teach and support students on their learning journey from explaining the fundamentals to sharing the realities of project delivery successes and challenges. Open to multiple locations: Lafayette, LA, Knoxville, TN, or Belton TX onshore delivery center preferred. Your future duties and responsibilities: . Designs and delivers Java (and perhaps other technical) curriculum to new hires . Participates in the interviewing process for cohort members . Coaches members on their performance, including providing constructive feedback, accelerated assignments and any remediation or alternative learning approaches as needed . Supports Academy staff in placement of graduates, including helping define successful work scenarios, ongoing training needs and mentoring . Supports Academy Program Manager in engaging with metros and sectors to create a feedback loop for understanding additional needs and addressing in gaps in training . Consults in both ad hoc and billable manner as time permits to project engagements to stay current with client needs, technologies and team dynamics Required qualifications to be successful in this role: Success in this role requires an experienced developer who demonstrates the following characteristics from a technical and instructional perspective. Technical approach . Java is one of your go-to tools, but you use others. That said, if you need a quick endpoint you'll have an SBA running in 5 minutes. You are extremely comfortable working in Java's ecosystem and have complete mastery over the language and its most critical supporting frameworks, such as Spring and Lombok. . You understand the inners of Java: how Java synchronizes, concurrency, the use cases for a LinkedList vs. an ArrayList, and why hashCode is so important. And you're ready to explain what volatile does to support your students that love to learn-ahead. You love to code examples on the fly. . We all have opinions about how-to code you have modern, informed opinions that you're ready to defend: why Optional instead of null, why enhanced for loops instead of iterating through indices (but when iteration by index is required), why immutable/declarative/functional is less bug-prone, why we should use factory methods over constructors. . Spring, the Maven Repo, Git, Docker - it's all part of the same ecosystem as far as you're concerned. The application isn't done once it passes UAT the application is done when it automatically containerizes with a Git-push and launches with a docker run (or is pushed to a K8s cluster). . You might not be a DBA but SQL and Spring Data are a piece of cake. You keep PostgreSQL (or, if you must, MySQL) running on your local to manipulate your customers spreadsheets. Instructional Approach . You define learning objectives and a plan to achieve them but flexible enough to provide more instruction or accelerated content based on student needs . You love delivery and want to train your cohort to deliver, not just to 'know' you're not transferring knowledge as much as skill. . You know that the goal is not to make it through the syllabus, but to turn your students into Java developers. You want to hear from their Project Managers that they hit their first assignment running. . You want to have a discussion, not give a lecture. You don't talk at them you talk with them. You are their partner for the length of the training session. You love your students' 'ah-ha!' moments. . You understand that the moment that you say 'because that's the way we do it' is the moment that you've lost your audience and 'I don't know, let's figure it out' is an opportunity to learn, to teach, and to teach how to learn. . Your opinions are strong and you're eager to defend them with more than just rank and that confidence shows you are wise. . You encourage your students to interrupt with questions. Your favorite students are the ones that add to the conversation with their questions and by stating their experiences. . You are comfortable in a virtual training environment. . You understand that many of your students are new to technology, in general and, because of this, you reserve time to speak about peripheral topics: TCP/IP, IP address and TCP/UPD ports, the journey of COBRA to SOAP to REST, the HTTP protocol with respect to REST, etc Skill Set - Years of Experience - Proficiency Level Java - 6+ years - Technical training - 2+ years - IT consulting - 5+ years - Skills: Java RESTful (Rest-APIs) Microservices Training Delivery What you can expect from us: Build your career with us.
